I read a series of these lately: The Eyre Affair, by Jasper Fforde, The Last Kashmiri Rose, by Barbara Cleverly, and The Janissary Tree, by Jason Goodman. I liked all of them, but wasn't crazy about any of them. My friend Beth loaned me The Eyre Affair, but I'm proud to say that I picked out the other two all by myself.
